MxCC PARTICIPATES IN "MOVING PLANET DAY"

The Sustainability Team at Middlesex Community College will participate in Moving Planet Day at the Church of the Holy Trinity (381 Main Street) on Saturday, September 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The team will display information about the various environmental programs at MxCC that are designed to reduce fossil fuel use, and will host an ongoing environmental trivia game (with prizes) throughout the day.

As a prelude to “Moving Planet Day,” the Sustainability Team is bringing a “One World House” to the MxCC campus from Monday, September 19 to Friday, September 23. This is a full-size model of a house typical in rural communities in Nicaragua and around the world. It includes nine banners that describe the impact of climate change on vulnerable rural communities, the science of climate change, and what we can do to mitigate the impacts.

The “One World House” comes to MxCC from the New Haven/Leon Sister City Project (http://www.newhavenleon.org/earthathon), a progressive, binational, grassroots organization that fosters a partnership between the communities of Greater New Haven and León, Nicaragua, and promotes social justice. Chris Schweitzer from the New Haven/Leon Sister City Project will speak at MxCC on Monday September 19 from 12:30-1:15 p.m. to explain the “One World House” concept. The talk is part of the new MxCC Brown Bag Lunch Series, and is open to all faculty, staff, students, and members of the community. The “One World House” will be moved downtown from the MxCC campus for the Moving Planet Day events.
