It's Vinnie Loffredo Day

It's not without some irony that today, Tuesday January 4 has been declared Vinnie Loffredo Day in Middletown.  It's the first day, during the mayor's tenure, that Loffredo is no longer a member of the Common Council.  Loffredo and Mayor Sebastian Giuliano have often been at odds about issues which have come before the council, and have dueled about the authority of the mayor vs. the authority of the Common Council.

Loffredo was honored Monday evening at the beginning of the Common Council meeting by the Council, which presented him with a plaque honoring his service, and the mayor, who declared today Loffredo day.

Loffredo saved his goodbyes for the end of the meeting thanking his colleagues on the Council, the mayor and the voters who elected him.

Loffredo has resigned from the Council in the middle of his term because he has accepted a new job assignment with his employer the Connecticut Education Association, a major teacher's union and lobbying organization.

Former Councilman Vincent Loffredo always made educated arguments when it came time to make decisions for Middletown residents. I was hoping that Loffredo would consider running for Mayor this year or in the future. He would have been the Democrats best choice to run. I remember back in 1979 he was the Democratic party's nominee for Mayor that year but lost the nomination in a primary to Mike Cubeta and the results of the primary had to be settled in court because it was a very close election. Middletown's loss is CEA's gain. Good-Luck Mr. Loffredo! Please Stay involved with Middletown. "
