Lime, Ugh (an Opinion)

Yesterday a new sign for Snow school was erected at the intersection of West and Wadsworth Streets. While it is great to have a space for announcements, which help connect the school to the people driving through the neighborhood, the sign fails to match the beauty of the school itself.

Snow School is Middletown's most elegant; its expansive wooden beams, forest greens, and stone browns gracefully announce a natural learning environment.

The new sign, with neon lime green blaring from a massive metal support post, is a different look altogether.

Pretty sure you mean Wadsworth and West, because Wadsworth and Cross never, well, cross.

Yeah, it sure looks ugly.

Coincidentally, today's Press has a story on the St. Sebastian's school vote -- featuring a photo of that school's sign. It looks very similar to Snow's, so perhaps this isn't a coincidence.

How about looking at the content of the message on the sign instead of the FOREST green sign itself. The color choice is to match the school colors. You should be celebrating there is a place for the public to know all the good things going on in there.

I like the sign - color and all.

As a parent of children that attend the school, I am pretty excited that we are up to speed with what other towns are doing. How many elem. schools have postings like this? I feel this is a wonderful way to bring the children and their parents as well as the communilty together with what is happening in the school. Unless you have a child that attends you might not know about upcoming events. Way to go Snow, I love the new sign!!

The school community is very excited about using this sign to communicate with families. My son came home yesterday thrilled about seeing it for the first time on the bus ride home. The school and the PTO worked very hard to pull together the money to purchase it. I was disappointed to read that instead of celebrating this important tool for community connection, the Eye has posted a petty complaint about its aesthetic value. The fact that it was marked as opinion doesn't make it any less obnoxious. So sorry the school couldn't afford an architectural marvel of a sign with wooden beams and hand painted messages in an amazing shade of forest green to suit the commuters driving by. Honestly, this post should be removed.

Now I wish our new high school had a sign like this!

Think about you comment...the sign at a 4 way stop because then people stop and read it.

For those that complain, when was the last time any of you volunteered your time, of any significance, at the school, any school or organization?

It's easy to sit back and point fingers. That takes no effort what so ever.
