Higganaum To Feature English Lady at Farmers Market Friday

The Higganum Village Farmers’ Market is excited to announce that special guest, Maureen Haseley-Jones, aka “The English Lady,” will appear this Friday, July 16th at 4pm (during the Market hours
which run 2:30-5:30pm this week). Local residents and visitors are invited to gather on the Higganum Green near the intersection of Route 81, Candlewood Hill Road, and Route 154/Saybrook Road to hear The English Lady speak from 4- 5pm.

Haseley-Jones’ Connecticut-based company works throughout the Northeast
creating affordable, natural, organic gardens, and landscapes. Maureen lectures throughout the
Nutmeg State on a broad range of landscape design and environmentally-holistic topics.
She also writes timely articles for various newspapers and magazines throughout the state, in addition to having her own weekly gardening columns in local newspapers, magazines, and radio programs. Home Living Connecticut Magazine referred to Maureen as “one of Connecticut’s best known Landscape Designers and radio personalities.” The New York Sunday Times said of Maureen
that “one of life’s unexpected experiences was discussing manure with an English Baroness,” and Connecticut Magazine found Maureen “anything but tweedy.”

This week, The English Lady treats Higganum Village Farmers’ Market visitors to a hour-long lecture
peppered with great gardening advice, funny stories, and a raffle for laminated garden plants.
Have your native plant questions ready and enjoy a pleasant Summer afternoon with the gardening
guru whose tagline is, “Healing Our Planet…One Garden at a Time.” For more about The English
Lady, visit online: http://theenglishlady.com/blog.

“We are committed to keep our carbon footprint as small as we can in life, home, and garden,”
says The English Lady. “We hope to inspire you in some way to improve yourself and your home
by taking small steps towards positive change without breaking the bank. Quality does not mean
expensive, it means created with thought and pride.”

The market staff encourages visitors to bring cold drinks, sunscreen, lawn chairs or blankets, and –
of course – a reusable bag (in case you win one of The English Lady's laminated Garden Plans!) or
cooler with ice packs to keep your market finds fresh and cool. Guests will be treated to a
participatory Drumming Circle event immediately after the lecture, from 5 until 5:30pm.

The Market will end around 6 pm, when a summertime concert kicks off at the Gazebo, courtesy of the
Haddam-Killingworth Parks & Recreation Department, with the band “Cover Story,” beginning at 7
pm.
