You've got to be kidding! Getting drunk is honoring these people who died?

This is real classy. Is this the best Middletown could come up with to honor these hardworking, dedicated people? I'm glad that people are willing to put something together to recognize this loss, but basically encouraging people to drink in excess (the more the people imbibe the more money raised, right?)is questionable to say the least.

anon@846am: pub crawl is clearly not a city-sponsored event so please dont disparage the city. Check out the Facebook link. I also encourage the EYE to please add the sponsoring and contact information to the posting - if it can be obtained. From the Facebook page it looks like its organized by individual citizens. . while I agree with both anons that getting drunk is not a very effective way to honor anyone, I recognize that many people do turn to alcohol in such situations and it is somewhat an equalizer and creator of solidarity. I dont understand it personally, but I can recognize and acknowledge that drinking is a very common way of social and emotional bonding that many people do feel comfortable with and that is not likely to change any time soon.

I think its a construction worker thing. We need to get together and laugh, after so much crying. I worked at the plant for nine months and it could have been me. I would have liked the krawl in my honor. Have you organized anything?

Wow, look at the disparaging remarks from the people who from what I can see did nothing to help whatsoever. Correct me if I am wrong.

It was organized by individual citizens, private folk who do what they can with what they have access to.

Clearly you anonymous types feel this doesn't really affect you anyway, (by your language)"while I agree with both anons that getting drunk is not a very effective way to honor anyone, I recognize that many people do turn to alcohol in such situations and it is somewhat an equalizer and creator of solidarity. I dont understand it personally..." When you present yourselves as Anon, do you mean Alcoholics Anonymous?? Who are you people to sanctify or not?

Do something instead of criticizing those who try. It's negative at best and passive aggressive as far as I'm concerned.

Must be nice to sit so high up and look down upon everyone else.

Sincerely,
Tommy Lourdes

Drinking is a personal choice as is ignorance to others intentions without knowing all the facts!!!

I do not see anywhere in the fundraising event where it says you must go from Pub to Pub and become inebriated, I do see locals reaching out to raise funds through capitalizing on local businesses willingness to open there doors and provide a service and proceeds to a cause dear to some who have experienced grave tradgedy.

The view of one condoning alchoholism for fundraising seems to be somewhat narrow minded and suggests that all in attendance will be alcoholics.

I am confident that the intent was not to get drunk to honor those who perished in this tragedy but bring together socialites to contribute in a way fit for them.

Sincerley,

Anthony R. Lancia, Jr.
