Feed the Frog, Feed the Hungry

I saw this Happy Frog sculpture today on Main Street, Northampton, Mass.

It's not just art - it's a donation box. If people want to support the hungry and homeless, but don't want to encourage panhandlers by handing out change, they can just "Feed the Frog."

There's a box with handy flyers explaining where the donations go. On the flip side is a list of all the times and locations of meals that are free for hungry folk in the downtown.

Inspiring solution!

Great Idea!

This is what I saw being done in San Francisco - Signage (mostly directed to the large tourist population) stating that panhandling was not allowed. These signs directed tourists not to encourage the panhandlers and explained their voucher program and directed people on how/where they could donate. The vouchers were then distributed by the groups working with the homeless which then could be exchanged for food, shelter, a place to shower, medical attention etc.
