Around Middletown in 80 Days: Day 47

Exhibit at the Mansfield Freeman Center for East Asian Studies

“Enlightening Images: Buddhist Art Work”

The Mansfield Freeman Center for East Asian Studies is on Washington Terrace. Home to Wesleyan University’s Asian Study program, this house is open to the public for visits to the Galleries and quiet meditation in the Japanese Room and Garden

Phileas was surprised when he walked into this late Victorian shingle-style home and found the peace and tranquility of a beautiful Japanese style room and garden at the back of the house. He much enjoyed the current exhibit of Buddhist art work, bringing together Japanese temple woodcuts, Tibetan prints and contemporary photographs.

This exhibit runs through December 16. The center is open Tuesday – Sunday, noon to 4 pm. http://www.wesleyan.edu/east/mansfieldf/mansfield.html
