Macdonough is spelled with an "a", could you please correct the spelling? Thank you!

This is a fantastic achievement that Middletown should be proud of. The Board of Ed and the schools have been taking a lot of shots from politicians, the Courant, and comments on The Eye recently. It looks like they are doing something right.

While MacDonough's achievements are impressive, I didn't see anything in the Courant article, though, that would support the headline that MacDonough was closing the achievement gap. The Courant reported that the scores have improved, and that the gap between students of color and whites is smaller in Middletown than in Connecticut as a whole. That's great, but the story doesn't indicate if the gap is any smaller at MacDonough than at other schools in Middletown, or even if the gap has grown narrower over time or remained unchanged. Does anyone know how Middletown, and MacDonoough in particular, have done in terms of narrowing the gap between students of color and whites, and those above and below the poverty line?

I am not trying to reduce the significance of the progress that was made at MacDonough in improving scores, I am just curious much success has been achieved in eliminating the disparity.

Congratulations to all of the students, parents, teachers and administrators at MacDonough on a job well done.

There is data that shows that not only has the gap at Macdonough lessened over time, but that it is significantly lower than at many of the other Middletown schools. Impressive given the fact that over 80% of the kids are eligible for free or reduced lunch and that there is a much higher percentage of students of color than at the other schools, both populations that are not doing well state-wide, or even district wide. The schools with lower gaps also have a very small percentage of students of color and free and reduced lunch. I can point you to the data if you're interested.

Thanks Izzie. That is really an impressive achievement. I would be interested in looking at the data if you could point me in the right direction.

Sorry, I forgot to respond. The best place for stats is: http://ctreports.com/ It's a lot of data crunching, but if you don't mind doing it, you'll learn a lot. Feel free to email me at izzi.greenberg@neatmiddletown.org if you want any guidance on how to get the best results.
